As mentioned earlier, BMW will begin to make the Black Fire Editions available this coming August, although the company has yet to disclose pricing on the upcoming special editions. Power of this kind allows them to run 0-62 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds when equipped with the standard 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox. Only 200 will arrive in the United States.

On the exterior of the Black Fire Edition models is a Sapphire Black Metallic paint. To ensure coherence, other elements like the kidney grille and 21-inch M forged alloy wheels are also finished in black, capped off with carbon-fibre mirror covers.

The well-appointed interior is where things get a little more fiery.

As for the cabin, the Black Fire Edition SUVs are fitted with two-tone (red/black) fine-grain Merino leather upholstery, piano black interior trim and a dedicated logo facing the passenger side. A leather-wrapped steering wheel is standard, but buyers can opt for an M Performance wheel wrapped in grippy, suedelike Alcantara.

Power comes from the same beefy twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 as in the standard cars, and the engine is linked to an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission.

The Bavarian brand is apparently looking to enhance its M SUV range with the future introduction of an X3 M, alongside the X5 and X6 M, but that one will have to wait its turn before getting the Black Fire treatment.

But the uniqueness isn't just cosmetic, BMW has also tweaked the all-wheel drive system for a greater bias to the rear wheels. Essentially, the Black Fire Edition is really a ninja edition.
