National Basketball Association honors to be presented during league's first awards show

The MVP is one of six awards to be decided by media vote.

Two weeks after the NBA Finals and almost three months after the end of the 2016-17 regular season, the NBA will finally name its most valuable player and hand out other key honor Monday night at its first-ever live awards ceremony in New York City. Fans will be able to watch it as it all unfolds on Monday night from New York City.

The finalists for this year's MVP are the Houston Rockets' James Harden, the San Antonio Spurs' Kawhi Leonard, and the Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook.

This award is the flashiest of them all, and James Harden is a candidate for it.

Mr. Hotline Bling gets to headline an unneccesary National Basketball Association awards show. "The Process" averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 2.1 assists per game last season.

I think the players would prefer not to have to go to NY during the time they're generally on vacation recovering from the long season; I can't imagine the two of three in each category who lose are going to enjoy themselves. It will be shown live on the TNT Network and via live stream at WatchTNT and NBA.com. Westbrook will join Houstons James Harden and San Antonios Kawhi Leonard as finalists for the leagues MVP award.

Yes, Embiid only played 31 games this season, and Malcolm Brogdon probably is more deserving.

Eric Gordon was the frontrunner to win the Sixth Man of the Year, but he tailed off once fellow nominee Lou Williams became his teammate after the trade deadline.

Leonard could be a double victor, as he is also a finalist for the defensive award that he won the last two years. Many have criticized D'Antoni over the years, but the success that he had with the Rockets in elevating them in the Western Conference should earn him Coach of the Year honors. Though he may not be a Rocket next year, he is still one of the best defenders in the league.

For the Most Improved Player award, nominees are Giannis Antetokounmpo of Milwaukee Bucks, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, and Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz, who is also contending for the Defensive Player of the Year award against Leonard of the Spurs, and Draymond Green of the Warriors.

If feels like we've lived a lifetime of basketball since the regular season ended, and with many teams already excited about their newly drafted players, it's easy to look ahead. The All-NBA Team was announced during the 2017 NBA Playoffs.
