Manhunt ongoing for Georgia inmates who killed 2 Corrections Officers

Prison guards killed; prisoners on the run

Dubose, 24, and Rowe, 43, stand accused of overpowering, shooting, and killing two guards on a prison bus at approximately 6:45 a.m. this morning.

Authorities said both men are considered extremely risky, Sills said during a press conference held at the Morgan County Sheriff's Office in Madison Wednesday afternoon.

Two US inmates serving long prison sentences and "dangerous beyond description" overpowered and killed two guards on a prison bus before fleeing in a stolen vehicle, authorities said.

The agency is urging people not to approach the men and to call 911 if they spot the pair.

At least one of the men, both of whom have long, violent criminal histories, shot both officers.

Both were serving prison sentences for separate armed robbery and assault convictions, and they knew each other, having once been cellmates, authorities said.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, which tracks line-of-duty deaths, the two Georgia guards are the third and fourth corrections officer killed in the line of duty this year.

The manhunt moved from Putnam County to Morgan County Tuesday afternoon after authorities learned that the two men had broken into a house on Cox Road near Madison. They took off with the Honda driver's phone, leaving 31 other inmates locked in the bus with the two dead guards, and were gone by the time help arrived.

Sills said his biggest concern is that the inmates are going to kill somebody else.

The names of the prison guards and inmates haven't been released.

Dubose is serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery and aggravated assault and a 10-year sentence for theft by taking from Elbert County. Monica had worked for the facility for almost eight years after being hired in October of 2009.

His voice shaking, he said, "I had their blood on my shoes".

Overnight they stole a 2008 Ford F-250 truck in neighboring Morgan County, police said.

They're still investigating how the pair got free and overpowered the guards, according to Sills and Dozier.

Authorities had no further signs of the inmates and had no reason to believe they had split up, Sills said.

Rowe and Dubose entered the driver's compartment and overpowered and disarmed Officers Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue while the bus was on the two-lane State Route 16 between Eatonton and Sparta, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said.

Sills also said there was a possibility that the escapees had split up, but that was before authorities found the auto the two men stole and used as a getaway vehicle in Putnam County Tuesday.

Investigators Tuesday also were working to figure out exactly how the inmates made their escape.

However, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety is asking the public to be observant and report any sightings or information about the escapees to their law enforcement agencies. He appears to have a crown tattooed above his right eyebrow, writing above his left eyebrow and large letters covering the entire front of his neck. Both are being sought by law enforcement.
