Australia will get 'marriage equality' 'sooner rather than later'

Also stop hiding your water in other people's heads

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I hope Christopher Pyne is right - the sooner same-sex marriage is legalised, the better.

Pyne reportedly told the group on Friday night that the moderates were now controlling the Liberal party and were in the "winner's circle" - but they still have to deliver marriage equality.

"One of those [things] we've got to deliver before too long is marriage equality", Pyne said in the audio.

Because we all just get one vote in this.

"And I think you have to give some people some latitude that if they've been to a function and they've had a few beers and given an impromptu speech, that is not to be seen as totemic of where the nation is."

"And your friends in Canberra are working on that outcome.it might even be sooner than everyone thinks".

Mr Turnbull declined to criticise Mr Pyne, and reiterated the Liberal Party's policy on same-sex marriage.

Ms Credlin, who was former prime minister Tony Abbott's chief-of-staff, said the issue of gay marriage was tearing apart the Liberal Party and the Turnbull Government.

"We have a policy. We will not support a vote on gay marriage in the Parliament until there has been a plebiscite, which every Australian gets the opportunity to vote, and that plebiscite is voted yes for gay marriage".

The treasurer said same-sex marriage was not a focus of the federal government. We took it to the last election.

'The Minister said that whilst marriage equality had failed to materialise over the last two years, it would become a reality eventually, ' the statement said.

'One of our number have been caught out, ' he told Sydney radio station 2GB on Monday.

"My point is you need to be "fair dinkum" with the Australian people and it looks like that's not been true of Christopher".

The Senate in November rejected legislation that would have allowed the national vote to take place.

Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce, who is London, said he was focused on other issues, such as the trade mission he is about to undertake.

Mr Pyne downplayed the remarks, saying he was a supporter of same-sex marriage and criticising Labor for opposing the public vote.

This would upend the Turnbull government's policy of putting the issue to voters in a plebiscite, a route the opposition has blocked in the parliament.

Mr Turnbull said the coalition recently had been able deal with complex issues such as schools funding and energy policy.
