OH government websites hacked with pro-Islamic State rant

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction's website hacked

The hacked page, which surfaced on Sunday afternoon and was quickly taken down, said it was "Hacked By Team System Dz".

A number of government websites, many of them in OH, have been hacked with a message that purports to be supportive of the Islamic State terrorist group.

The message said President Donald Trump "will be held accountable" for "every drop of blood flowing in Muslim countries".

A spokeswoman for Mr Kasich, Emmalee Kalmbach, said in a statement: "As soon as we were notified of the situation, we immediately began to correct it, and will continue to monitor until fully resolved".

Tom Hoyt, chief communications officer for Ohio's Department of Administrative Services, was among OH officials who confirmed the hack.

Some see these types of hacks as simply a nuisance, though in some instances, they have been disruptive to work and government life. The websites are expected to run sometime Monday, he told the Associated Press.

Ohio Governor John Kasich's website was hacked Sunday, displaying what appeared to be pro-ISIS propaganda. "We also are working with law enforcement to better understand what happened".

State Treasurer Josh Mandel addressed the Department of Corrections' hack on Facebook by saying: "Wake up freedom-loving Americans".

USA Today reports that Team System DZ is described as a group of "anti-Israeli Arab teenagers", according to Zone-H.

OH government pages and the website for a town in Long Island were also part of the apparent attack.

In March 2015, the Wisconsin State Journal reported that the group claimed it hacked the Richland County Sheriff's Office's website and others by splattering pro-jihadi messages.
