Not 'that far off' from passing health overhaul

In a tweet last week after Georgia's special House election, Trump also criticized House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer.

Lawmakers said they need more time to analyze and amend the bill.

In the broadcast interview, Trump did not indicate what types of changes to the Senate bill may be in store, but affirmed that he had described a House-passed bill as "mean". And the president called Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren "somebody that's just got a lot of hatred".

Sen. Ron JohnsonRon JohnsonSenate Republicans reluctant to rush vote on healthcare bill GOP sen: "We should not be voting" on healthcare this week GOP at decisive moment on Planned Parenthood MORE (R-Wis.) - who identified his opinion as "not a yes yet" on the Senate healthcare bill - on Sunday said the Senate should not be voting on healthcare this coming week.

Johnson on Thursday joined fellow GOP Sens. He says: "I would like to delay the thing". There's no way we should be voting on this next week.

Schumer said Democrats have made clear they would be willing to work with Republicans to pass a Senate bill if they agree to drop a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and instead work to improve it.

He told ABC's "This Week" the GOP has "at best, a 50-50 chance". That's because unanimous opposition is expected from Democrats in a chamber in which Republicans hold a narrow 52-48 majority.

Collins said she is waiting to make a final decision on whether she supports or opposes the bill until she sees the Congressional Budget Office's analysis.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of ME said she has extreme reservations about the Senate healthcare bill. "It's hard for me to see the bill passing this week", she added.

But in his interview on Sunday, Trump seemed confident in the contents of the Senate's bill, as well as its passage - although he predicted some changes to placate the senators that are now not supporting the legislation.

Collins said another seven to eight senators including herself remain troubled about the possible Medicaid cuts.

Trump was interviewed by "Fox & Friends", while Collins, Schumer and Paul appeared on ABC's "This Week".

"What I'd like to do is... get the information and go through the problem solving process and reduce these... premiums that have been driven up because of Obamacare mandates - so let's fix the problem..."

Schumer said Senate passage of the bill to replace former president Barack Obama's health law is too close to call.
