Manchester United close to signing Nemanja Matic, report claims

Is Matic the right man for Man Utd? .

Jose Mourinho is turning to an old colleague to provide the Manchester United with the steel it desperately requires.

According to a report from FranceFootball this evening, Premier League giants Chelsea will have to wait a little longer before announcing the signature of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, with the Frenchman yet to agree terms with the Blues on a contract.

1 option for the holding role, is expected to sign for Chelsea from Monaco - a move that will unlock the door for Matic to head to Old Trafford.

He will become Antonio Conte's first summer signing with more players set to follow.

The potential reunion with Mourinho would also see Matic play under a manager with whose tactics he is already well acquainted with, and under whom he enjoyed the best years of his career.

The French outlet states that the midfielder will complete his move to Stamford Bridge next week after the two clubs agreed a fee worth in the region of £35m with the player set to pen a five-year contract. The cash from Manchester United will allow the club to make that deal happen.

Former Blues assistant coach Ray Wilkins has said how he was "disappointed" to see that Conte was after Bakayoko.

So it looks as though Bakayoko should complete his switch to west London at some point next week with the French global set to line-up alongside compatriot N'Golo Kante in midfield next season.

Matic was an important figure in the Chelsea line-up last season, making 30 starts in the league alongside N'Golo Kante, helping them win the title for the second time in three years.
