More Bad News For Jared Kushner as Mueller Follows the Money

A team of investigators hired by special counsel Robert Mueller to probe Russia's campaign to influence the USA election will look at the finances and business dealings of President Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner, according to a report.

The White House confirmed on Thursday that Mueller was interviewed - presumably about again running the Federal Bureau of Investigation - the day before he was named as special counsel to investigate Russian meddling in last year's presidential election.

Just a day after the stunning report that Donald Trump is officially under criminal investigation for possible obstruction of justice, The Washington Post is now reporting that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is looking into Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner's shady business dealings with Russian Federation.

VEB said Gorkov met with Kushner in December as part of the launch of a new strategy in a series of meetings with "representatives of leading financial institutes".

The paper previously reported that Kushner's December meeting with Sergey Gorkov, the chairman of the Russian government controlled Vnesheconombank (VEB) and an associate of President Vladimir Putin, had come under scrutiny by us investigators.

Previously, it was reported that Kushner worked to establish a secret channel of communication between Moscow and the Trump team during the post-election transition phase.

The White House said at the time that Kushner's meetings were for diplomatic purposes, but the Russian bank maintained their meeting concerned the Kushner family's real estate company.

Previous Post articles have mentioned Kushner's meetings with the head of a Russian state-owned development bank.

The meeting occurred as Kushner's company was seeking financing for its troubled $1.8 billion purchase of an office building in NY.

"We do not know what this report refers to", said Jamie Gorelick, a lawyer for Kushner.

Trump on Thursday lashed out at the investigators driving the Russian Federation investigation as "very bad and conflicted people", responding angrily to reports that the special counsel is looking into whether Trump obstructed justice.

On Friday, Trump tweeted that he was being "investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!" "It would be standard practice for the Special Counsel to examine financial records to look for anything related to Russia", Gorelick told the Washington Post. Gorelick pointed out that Kushner has volunteered to speak with the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is leading one of the congressional Russian Federation investigations. Comey said he believes Trump ultimately fired him "because of the Russian Federation investigation". "He will do the same if he is contacted in connection with any other inquiry".

Contrast that, he said in a later conversation, to the Trump team, led by Trump personal lawyer Marc Kasowitz and including partner Michael Bowe and Washington legal veteran Jay Sekulow.

Comey testified last week that he also felt pressured to drop the Flynn probe. The first time he told Trump was in his first meeting with the president before the inauguration on January 6.

Baker declined to comment.
