India pitches for greater engagement with BRICS nations

Chinese President Xi Jinping Xi Jinping BRICS Games BRICS BRICS cooperation Guangzhou

Xi made the remarks while meeting the heads of delegations from Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa who are in Beijing to attend the BRICS Foreign Minister meet, reports Xinhua news agency.

"We oppose any double standard adopted by countries in counter-terrorism efforts", foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said on Friday.

Indian Minister of External Affairs Vijay Kumar Singh gives a speech during the BRICS foreign ministers meeting in Beijing Monday, June 19, 2017. "Everybody is fully concerned about the spread of terrorism in its various forms and manifestations", Singh said.

The BRICS foreign ministers' meeting is a precursor to the chain of meetings of BRICS officials including the National Security Advisors (NSAs) meeting to be held later next month ahead of the Summit.

Wang said China was making every effort to combat terrorism.

BRICS should create new economic growth models, promote structural reform and seek new growth momentum, while strengthening policy coordination and enhance cooperation, Xiao said.

During his meeting with Lavrov, Wang said China is willing to deepen coordination with Russian Federation to enhance strategic trust, boost economic and financial cooperation, increase cultural and people-to-people exchanges and strengthen the cooperation mechanism among BRICS countries.

The ministers from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa met in Beijing for a two-day conference that ended on Monday. "The Brics Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism concluded its meeting in May 2017", he said.

China said it was also "a victim of terrorism" and was taking part in the global initiatives against terror. "However, it will only operate inside the five, while we need global ratings in order to attract world-renowned investors", he said.

"It is clear that we can not solve this problem by ourselves need a broad anti-terror front", he said.

The statement backed the Paris Agreement on climate change - a reaffirmation that assumes importance after the withdrawal of the United States from the pact.

On climate change, the foreign ministers called upon developed countries to fulfil their commitment to provide necessary financing, technology transfer and capacity building support to developing countries.

The ministers' strongly supported the Geneva peace talks and the Astana process, and welcomed the creation of the de- escalation areas in Syria.

They also backed "Afghan-led and Afghan-owned" national reconciliation programme and the ongoing global efforts for peace and reconstruction of the war-torn country.
