Deck collapses at Montana lodge, injuring more than 25

Serious injuries in Flathead Lake deck collapse

The incident occurred at Glacier Camp in Lakeside, a "Christ-centered" retreat location, according to its Twitter bio.

More than 50 people were injured when the deck gave way following a memorial service for a firefighter who died in April.

According to witness Leslie Dillon, around 50 people were gathered on the deck overlooking Flathead Lake following the service when the structure broke and fell.

LAKESIDE, Mont. (AP) - Police officials say a Montana resort's insurer will investigate what caused a second-story deck to collapse and injure at least 50 people. Dillon says many of her friends and relatives were taken away in ambulances.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said Saturday evening there were no fatalities in the incident.

He added that he saw first responders from across the northwest Montana attending to the hurt - which ranged from children to elderly.

It wasn't immediately clear how many of those patients remain hospitalized. Some victims had serious injuries and had to be airlifted.

The Somers fire department says the area experienced another balcony collapse about a year ago during a party at a private residence with 20 people involved. This is not the first time a deck has collapsed in the Flathead Valley.

Authorities initially reported that 25 people were injured.

Three helicopters, including KRMC's ALERT air ambulance, were used to transport the injured. The Spruce Lodge is described as a top notch facility on Glacier Camp's website. Please join us in praying for the injured and their families.

The camp released a statement that reads, "we had a major accident at camp".
