Turkey not taking sides in Gulf dispute -media cites Turkish foreign minister

Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and a number of other countries severed relations with Qatar earlier this month, accusing it of supporting armed groups and Iran - allegations Qatar has repeatedly rejected.

In response, ICAO - a United Nations agency that regulates global air travel under the Chicago Convention - said it would host talks of ministers and senior officials from Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt at its Montreal headquarters on Thursday to seek a "consensus-based solution" that addressed "current regional concerns".

On Wednesday, media reported that Doha would buy U.S. fighter jets F-15 Eagle worth about $12 billion.

"We want this to be resolved through dialogue by the end of Ramadan".

"The nation of Qatar has unfortunately been a funder of terrorism, and at a very high level", Trump said. "America's support for Qatar is deep-rooted and not easily influenced by political changes", a Qatari official said. Ankara has also sent planeloads of food to Qatar, which had been dependant on imports from Saudi Arabia.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has strongly backed Qatar, calling the Saudi-led measures "inhumane and against Islamic values".

Qatar is an important base for the USA military carrying out operations against Islamic State militants and other groups in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and beyond.

The State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss an internal matter publicly, said the sale will take years to complete.

Soon after the Gulf countries announced that they were cutting all ties with Qatar, Trump in a series of tweets accused Qatar of supporting "terror" thereby overshadowing US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's attempts to remain neutral amid the crisis.

The agreement was signed by the head of the Pentagon James Mattis and the Minister of defence of Qatar Khali al-Attiyah, reports Al Jazeera.

The purchase is expected to increase Qatar's capability, improved security cooperation and interoperability between the two allies, a spokesman for Pentagon Lt. Col. Rogers Cabiness briefed CNN.

Typically, Qatar Airways flights West flew over Saudi Arabia.

"I would characterize the mood and the approach to that as being one that is hopeful, that believes that the worst is behind us", State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Tuesday. Bahrain and the UAE have also made illegal expressions of sympathy for Qatar.
