Trump reverses course in Qatar call

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addresses foreign ambassadors at a Ramadan dinner in Ankara Turkey. Erdogan has voiced support for Qatar in its dispute with Saudi Arabia and other nations saying no one will benefit from the policy of isolating

"You have to work for bringing brothers together".

Following the breakdown of talks, late Thursday night, Erdogan signed off on two previously ratified deals that authorizes the deployment of Turkish soldiers and military hardware to Qatar. Slogans against and in support of Qatar have dominated Twitter in Arabic.

The list also included 18 Qatari citizens accused of financing terrorism, well-known businessmen, politicians and top members of Qatar's ruling family.

On Monday, five Arab countries - Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Yemen - abruptly cut diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism - a charge Doha denies.

U.S. President Donald Trump offered to help Qatar and the other Gulf nations resolve their differences, including through a meeting at the White House if necessary, the White House said Wednesday.

Mr Trump later spoke to Saudi King Salman by phone, said a senior White House official.

"We have taken actions against individuals through our legal system", said Al Thani.

"Countries, who stayed silent while massacres were carried out in Syria, while babies were killed in [the Syrian city of] Idlib, are now doing this, not to another country, but specifically to Qatar for a reason we can not understand", she said. "I hope the sanctions against Qatar will be withdrawn as soon as possible", Erdogan said in a speech.

Trump bashed Qatar as a "funder of terrorism at a very high level" and called on it to stop funding terrorist organizations.

"Strict and firm action will be taken against anyone who shows sympathy or any form of bias towards Qatar, or against anyone who objects to the position of the United Arab Emirates, whether it be through the means of social media, or any type of written, visual or verbal form", Gulf News quoted UAE Attorney General Hamad Saif al-Shamsi as saying.

Tillerson told reporters at the State Department that the crisis, which has cut transportation links and trade, had begun to hurt ordinary people in Qatar, impaired business dealings and harmed the USA battle against Daesh. The Qatari Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Qatar is home to a vital U.S. military base.

"Isolating Qatar, who is putting up an efficient fight against terrorism, will not resolve any problem".

He said the US supports the emir of Kuwait in his efforts to resolve the conflict and closed by calling upon the Gulf Cooperation Council - a regional political alliance between Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE - to reaffirm the spirit of the summit attended by Trump three weeks ago, during which all of the countries committed to fight against terrorism.

The dispute has sparked the worst diplomatic crisis in the Arab world in years and raised fears it will cause further instability in an already-volatile region.
