Trump lashes out at 'bad,' 'conflicted' Russian Federation investigators

Donald Trump acknowledges he is under investigation in Russia probe

None of the men were involved with Trump's campaign.

Mueller was appointed last month as special counsel to lead the probe, after Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey. Last week, Coats and Rogers declined to answer questions before Congress about the matter. Cohen has already been subpoenaed by the House intelligence panel doing its own Russian Federation investigation.

In a pivotal shift in the investigation that has riveted Americans like no other for decades, senior intelligence officials have agreed to be interviewed by investigators working for Mr Muller, according to The Washington Post. It's possible that Rosenstein ordered the obstruction probe before Mueller's appointment in May. Though some in the White House have preached caution, fearing a repeat of the firestorm over Comey's firing, many in Trump's orbit - including his son Donald Trump Jr. and adviser Newt Gingrich - have deemed Mueller biased and worthy of dismissal.

But, after the news came out, there was speculation that Trump could be planning to fire Mueller from his post as special counsel.

An obstruction of justice finding could form the basis for Mr Trump's impeachment but such a step would face a steep hurdle because it would require approval by the US House of Representatives, which is controlled by the President's fellow Republicans.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is putting top Trump aide Jared Kushner's finances under the microscope. Agents then present those facts to prosecutors who decide whether they want to take the case.

The transition official said the organization has also separately asked the General Services Administration to preserve records from the Trump transition that were transferred to its facilities after Trump's inauguration.

Comey's testimony - given under oath before the Senate Intelligence Committee - could be material to Mueller's determination if indeed, Trump could be held criminally liable for obstruction of justice.

The scrutiny of Trump's actions is part of a ripple of unintended consequences that began when the president, frustrated by the cloud of investigations into Russian collusion, fired Comey last month. "[But] I am working with career professionals who know these rules and are responsible for enforcing these rules, and I can assure you that we're going to do the right thing, and we're going to defend the integrity of that investigation".

An insider told CNN that the USA leader was referring to news reports stating that he is under investigation over Comey's dismissal from the bureau. "He's the wrong man for that position".

INSKEEP: And something that is very much in line with what the White House says, although it was more politely phrased, perhaps, than the president would do.

A Republican senator on Friday also expressed hope Trump would refrain from discussing the Russian Federation investigation.

The Trump administration has been embroiled in an investigation into alleged Russian interference into the 2016 USA election.

The investigation appears to be reaching a broadening circle of current and former officials.

Rosenstein also has authority to fire Mueller, if he finds evidence of good cause.

His morning missive apparently referred to Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general whose role leading the federal investigation has become increasingly complicated.

With Democrats virtually salivating at the possibility they can find some link between Trump and the Russians, he needs to let special counsel Robert Mueller follow the leads.
