Trump friend: Mueller 'illegitimate as special counsel'

He said the president could ask his attorney general or, because Jeff Sessions has recused himself, ask his deputy attorney general, a civil servant, Rod Rosenstein, to do it.

"I personally think it would be a very significant mistake", Ruddy added.

"We're not going to let the President choose who conducts this investigation", he said.

But Trump has made no decision to act against Mueller and insists he knows the risks of doing so - but people close to the president say Trump is so volatile they can not be sure that he will not change his mind if he finds out anything to lead him to believe the investigation has been compromised.

Kayla Tausche of spotted Ruddy leaving the White House Monday morning before making the news.

Rosenstein said Trump has not discussed the special counsel with him.

While the president is deeply suspicious of Mueller, his anger is reserved for Sessions for recusing himself from the Russian Federation probe, and for Comey. She then added that in a separate testimony Tuesday, Rosenstein told a Senate panel he wouldn't allow it.

The comment came in response to questions from Democratic Sen.

Mueller also won votes of support Tuesday from the top two Republicans in Congress, House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, both of whom said they have confidence in him. "If you read "The Art of the Deal", he always says keep all your options open. I think it's an accurate statement".

"It could trigger something well beyond anything they ever imagined", Ruddy told Politico. A year ago, it would have seemed inconceivable for a president to fire his FBI Director, and yet that's exactly what Trump did. "It's beyond possibility to me that anyone is considering taking that kind of action". And so that's what I would do - if there were good cause, I would consider it.

"Mr Ruddy never spoke to the president regarding this issue", Mr Spicer said. The White House has denied those claims.

Then Ruddy spread out, like a banquet, what will be Trump's argument for sacking Mueller, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director under Barack Obama and George W. Bush. The Big Three Networks' willful omission of that point just goes to show how they push the worst case scenario as what was occurring with Trump.

The White House did not immediately respond to questions about Ruddy's claims.

The president ignored reporters' questions about Mueller on Tuesday, apparently as part of what he believes is a clever, farsighted strategy. Cox was eventually fired by Solicitor General Robert Bork.

Ruddy's media company leans far to the right, and he is widely known as a personal confidant of the president.

Law enforcement sources tell CNN that the special counsel is gathering information and considering whether there is evidence to launch a full-scale obstruction investigation.

"I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel".

VEGA: But the White House is pushing back, saying Ruddy does not speak for the President.

A senior political writer for the newspaper sounded the alarm in a piece titled, "Is Robert Mueller conflicted in Trump probe?" He said Trump could even order the special-counsel regulations repealed and fire Mueller himself. Ledgett wrote a memo, according to the source, documenting a conversation in which President Donald Trump allegedly urged Rogers to help get the FBI to lift the cloud of the Russian Federation investigation.

Mueller investigation appeared to be reaching a broadening circle of current and former officials.
