Trump Confirms Being Investigated for Firing Ex-FBI Director Comey

Mr Trump was not under investigation before Mr Comey's firing, but reportedly is now facing scrutiny for obstruction of justice over the circumstances surrounding the ex-FBI chief's sacking, according to United States media.

Trump said he was being investigated by the man who, in the first place, told him to fire James Comey. "Witch Hunt", the president wrote.

Late Thursday, reports surfaced Vice President Mike Pence hired a lawyer to assist him through probes into whether there were ties between Trump's election campaign and Russian Federation.

"The Fake News Media hates when I use what has turned out to be my very powerful Social Media - over 100 million people!".

"Crooked H destroyed phones w/ hammer, "bleached" emails, & had husband meet w/AG days before she was cleared- & they talk about obstruction?" the president said in a follow up tweet.

Trump's young presidency has been battered by allegations - under investigation both by Congress and the FBI - that Russian Federation interfered to sway the 2016 election in his favor, in possible collusion with Trump's campaign team. "Witch Hunt", President Trump tweeted on Friday morning.

CNN is suing the Justice Department for copies of fired FBI Director James Comey's personal memos on his interactions with President Donald Trump.

ABC News reported that Mr Rosenstein has told colleagues privately that he may have to step aside from the investigation.

Last month, Rosenstein wrote a memo to the president raising concerns over Comey's performance.

U.S. media had reported that Trump is personally being probed.

Of course, Rosenstein isn't directly investigating Trump, but he's tasked with overseeing the investigation by newly appointed Special Counsel Robert Mueller (who expanded his office with 13 new attorney hires this week). Though, somewhat ironically, that report relied on unnamed sources. "The Department of Justice has a long-established policy to neither confirm nor deny such allegations", Rosenstein said in his statement.

The Washington Post reported earlier this week Mueller is investigating whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice when he told Comey he hoped he could "let go" an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. The story relies on information from five anonymous officials, without mentioning what agencies they work for or what level of seniority they have.
