Rep. Steve Scalise's condition upgraded to 'serious'

The man who shot senior Republican congressman Steve Scalise and others at a congressional baseball practice session this week had a list containing the names of three politicians, officials said.

Scalise, the third-ranking GOP leader in the House, "continues to show signs of improvement", said the statement from MedStar Washington Hospital Center, which it released on behalf of Scalise's family.

President Donald Trump says that wounded Congressman Steve Scalise's condition is more hard than people first realized. When the members of the Republican team were announced, mention of Scalise's name drew a standing ovation throughout the stadium.

As for Scalise, he's still in critical condition, but he's improving.

"Both were purchased by the shooter from federal firearms licensees", the Capitol Police said in a statement.

One of the Capitol Police officers injured in Wednesday's shooting has thrown out the first pitch at the congressional baseball game - to thunderous applause.

Several people were injured, including Rep. Scalise.

Griner remained in the hospital in good condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the ankle, according to a Friday update. Hodgkinson was mortally wounded by police.

Rep. Steve Scalise's condition upgraded to 'serious'

Sava said Scalise will require surgeries soon for abdominal and bone injuries, in addition to the two he has undergone to fix a bone in his leg broken by the bullet.

Trump wasn't able to attend the event in person due to security protocols. "It's about Republicans and Democrats". Many on the Republican side were fresh from the horror of the ballfield shooting rampage a day earlier. Authorities also were going over a cellphone, computer and camera taken from Hodgkinson's white van, which was parked near the ball field.

Former President George W. Bush wrote on Instagram today, "Last night I had a nice chat with Jennifer Scalise, who reports that Steve is fighting hard and getting better".

"In Washington we have our disagreements, but we all agree that we are here to serve this nation we love and the people who call it home", Trump said.

Aguilar plays outfield for the Democratic team; before the shooting, Scalise was slated to play second base for the Republicans.

"He's in some trouble", said Trump, who had visited late Wednesday.

Investigators said in a statement that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has searched the van, which was parked not far from the Alexandria, Virginia, baseball field where Wednesday's shooting took place.

Democrat Cedric Richmond, a fellow Louisiana congressman, said as many others did that Scalise is a fighter.
