Mastermind of Tehran Attack Has Been Killed: Iran

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the suicide bombings and gun attacks on parliament and the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini - the Islamic Republic's founder - on Wednesday.

Larijanis was addressing a funeral ceremony of the victims of Wednesday terrorist attacks in Tehran.

The authorities say Iranian security forces killed the mastermind of the attacks on Saturday and that more than 50 suspects have been arrested around the country.

Today, the head of the justice department in Kordestan province in western Iran announced more arrests.

"Two of the killed criminals were foreign nationals. while the identity of other members is being investigated", Mr Maleki said, adding that weapons and an ISIL flag were seized during the raid.

Iran has tracked down and killed several suspected jihadists including the alleged mastermind of twin attacks in Tehran last week, a security official and a minister have said.

Lawmakers of the Iranian Parliament were briefed on the recent deadly terror attacks in the country by the Iranian Intelligence and Interior Ministers as well as Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami in a closed-door session of Parliament (Majlis) on Sunday.

He added that the mastermind of the operation, who had fled the country, was killed by Iranian security forces with help from friendly intelligence services.

Two of those killed were not Iranian, he said, without elaborating.

While ISIS claimed responsibility, Iranian officials have also suggested Saudi Arabia may have played a role - and Iran's foreign minister called the official US response "repugnant", after President Trump ended his expression of condolences for the victims with the message that "states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote". "We are not satisfied with the answers given so far", Asadullah Abbasi, a lawmaker was quoted as saying by judiciary's news agency, Mizan.
