'Happy' Gareth Bale aims for more trophies at Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo netted twice as Zinedine Zidane's side overcame Juventus 4-1 on Saturday

Cristiano Ronaldo, the star of a star-studded Real Madrid team, earned his man of the match award in the Champions League Final on Saturday evening, scoring two goals to help his team claim their twelfth European Cup.

Real's record 12th triumph in this competition - and third in four seasons - was predictably orchestrated by Ronaldo, who has now scored in three different Champions League finals.

There are some players who have probably played their last game for the club like Fabio Coentrao, who has barely featured this season and is likely to leave as they seek a deal for Atletico Madrid defender Theo Hernandez, with reports in Spain suggesting he has already passed his Madrid medical.

Madrid have been linked to a move for Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe and the evergreen Ronaldo may have a new partner next season.

Juventus retreated after the break, though, and Casemiro's deflected strike restored Real's lead on the hour before Ronaldo struck the killer blow three minutes later.

"Zidane confirmed his first year, but many said that he had taken advantage of a dynamic last year, but this time is something else".

Ronaldo's double gave him 42 Real goals this season, spearheading the Spanish giants' first LaLiga and European Cup double since 1957-58.

Kylian Mbappe enjoyed an incredible debut season in the Champions League. It was the only high point for Juventus on a night when the Italian champion was outclassed in its quest for a first European title in 21 years.

"I am very happy - an unbelievable season again".

"The two goals in quick succession hurt us and we were not able to react", Allegri said.

Modric created his own piece of history too, becoming the first Croatian to win the competition three times, moving ahead of former AC Milan defender Dario Simic, who lifted the cup in 2003 and 2007.

Zinedine Zidane has a job at Real Madrid for "the rest of his life", club president Florentino Perez.

"My contract? I hope to renew soon and there's no better place to play football than Madrid".

"I told the players to keep what they were doing but to play wider and put more pressure on them, and I said that when we got the ball play as you know how", Zidane said.

But the granite-like trio of Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli and Leonardo Bonucci cracked after Juventus had been the better side in a first half that ended 1-1.

Alex Sandro headed wide from a Dani Alves free-kick, but Juve's fire went out when Cuadrado was given his marching orders and substitute Asensio added to their misery with a late tap-in from Marcelo's cut-back.
