GOP, Dem governors call for changes in House health bill

Republicans have already given up on repealing and replacing Obamacare

A group governors is echoing President Trump's criticism of a House GOP health care bill, saying it threatens coverage for the most vulnerable.

"Care for my son is costly", Hill said. The goal is to stabilize the market until new provisions in the Republican health overhaul take effect. "My constituents expect me to know, and if we had utilized the process that goes through a committee, I would be able to answer not only your questions but my constituents' questions".

Schumer is making public his "dismay" at Republicans' closed-door negotiations on the health care bill by inviting all senators to an open meeting on health care in the Old Senate Chamber next week.

Trump told Republican senator at a White House lunch Tuesday that the House measure that he said a month ago was "incredibly well-crafted" was in fact "mean".

"I don't know what it is that will actually come forward".

But its outline so far is said to resemble a more expansive version of the legislation passed last month by the House.

The Senate version must duplicate the $133 million in estimated savings the House bill would deliver; it needs at least 50 votes to pass, but even with Republicans controlling the Senate it's unclear whether majority leader Sen.

The House of Representatives also is under pressure to approve the Senate bill instead of holding a conference to iron out differences between House and Senate. "You just have to decide which 10 days it is, but there may be just administrative obstacles that I'm not aware of about CBO scoring or getting a bill put together that might push it beyond July 4th".

"I've said from Day 1, and I'll say it again", said Sen.

John Kasich (R), Montana Gov. Steve Bullock (D), Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval (R), Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D), Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker (R) and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) signed the letter. The House bill would phase out the money for increased Medicaid coverage by 2020.

The Republican-controlled Senate on Thursday night voted 30-2 for legislation that would raise the sales tax to 6.5 percent, cut income tax rates initially 5 percent and establish tiered coal production tax rates.

The only things that can prevent the passage of Trumpcare are the votes of a handful of vulnerable Republican Senators. And that's before awaiting a score from the Congressional Budget Office and taking a series of procedural votes on legislation, all while keeping party members on board and fighting off obstructive Democrats.

Collins has been a leading advocate for a deliberate health care reform process focused on giving more people access to care. It's an unsurprising bit of hypocrisy from Republican leadership, who long criticized the President Obama's Affordable Care Act for being created behind closed doors.

As a result, they're considering ways to channel new financing for health insurance through existing government programs that bar the use of taxpayer dollars for abortion, according to sources familiar with the policy discussions.
