Escaped Inmates Held Terrified Couple Hostage Prior To Their Capture

Elbert County Sheriff's Office taken on Oct. 13 2015 shows inmate Ricky Dubose. Dubose and Donnie Russell Rowe escaped after killing two prison guards during a bus transport in Georgia. Both are being sought by law enforcement

But on the third day of a nationwide manhunt, two Georgia inmates who officials said had killed a pair of guards in a brazen escape from a prison bus were captured in Tennessee on Thursday evening.

The U.S. Marshal's Office announced late Thursday that Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose were in custody.

Audio released from the pursuit to capture Rowe and Dubose show police and deputies responding with calm and clear reactions.

After the convicts left in the couple's black Jeep Cherokee auto, the man and woman managed to escape and call police.

"People say this is the best possible outcome, but unfortunately, there is no good outcome because we have two dead correctional officers", Markley said.

"We know how important it was to capture them", said Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn.

It was the first of four cars they stole on the run, authorities said.

Likewise, Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Greg Dozier said in a press release, "We are relieved to know that these two unsafe individuals have been taken off the streets, and the public is out of harm's way".

At that point, the fugitives left in the couple's other vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, Swing said.

Rowe and Dubose held a couple captive and then fled in the couple's vehicle, Miles said. Sills said investigators were trying to determine how the killers got out of the inmate cage and into the driver's compartment.

A police spokesperson in Tennessee said once the couple called authorities, they found the fugitives, which led to a chase that included the suspect's allegedly shooting at officers.

The inmates allegedly went to another home to try to steal a vehicle there, but an armed homeowner detained the suspects until the authorities arrived, officials said. Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills called the fugitive inmates "dangerous beyond description".

Sills said the inmates broke into a home on Cox Road in Morgan County right after their escape and ransacked it before stealing some food and clothes.

Their weapons were recovered at the crash site and no one was injured in the chase, according to the news station.

A high-speed chase ensued as sheriff deputies pursued the men for about 10 miles on Interstate 24.

"They will be brought to justice swiftly for their heinous crime against our officers", he said, also expressing gratitude to all of the law enforcement officers who provided support and assistance in the search for the two men.

Authorities offered a $130,000 reward for information regarding Rowe and Dubose's whereabouts and one Tennessee homeowner did more than tip them off.

Authorities say Dubose and Rowe escaped after killing two prison guards during a bus transport in Georgia.

Georgia correctional officers Sgt. Curtis Billue, 58, (left) and Sgt. Christopher Monica, 42, were both shot and killed along Ga.

Dubose is serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery, aggravated assault and theft from a 2014 case.

Now they'll be transported back to Putnam County, and the families of Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue can rest a little easier knowing that the men suspected behind their deaths are behind bars before their funerals.
