Donald Trump confirms he is under investigation for obstruction of justice

President Donald Trump suggested that there was some hypocrisy in Rosenstein's involvement in a tweet on Friday, saying "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

The Democratic National Committee called on Mr Rosenstein to recuse himself from the Russian Federation matter, but it said authority over the investigation should be given to Mr Mueller and not another Trump appointee.

Mueller continues to hire a team of lawyers, and with FBI investigators is gathering information that is widely expected to lead to a formal investigation into whether President Trump attempted to interfere in the investigation.

The White House has repeatedly referred all questions about Russian Federation to the President's personal attorney.

In another early morning tweet, Trump said that despite months of investigation no proof has been presented of any collusion he may have had with the Kremlin.

President Donald Trump has just officially admitted he is under criminal investigation for obstruction of justice.

The order by the general counsel for the transition team casts a wide net on documents that could shed light on ties between Trump's presidential campaign and representatives of Russia's government. They are former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, his business partner Rick Gates, a national security adviser Carter Page, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and informal Trump adviser Roger Stone.

The White House originally pointed to Rosenstein's memo, which was also signed off on by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, when explaining Trump's decision to let Comey go.

A White House official said Friday's tweetstorm is a sign Trump is "taking matters into his own hands" - the latest example of how he thinks he is the best person to deliver his message.

Given that every morning brings with it some new Trump scandal, one could be excused for not realizing that Trump has yet to be actively investigated. "Witch Hunt", he tweeted.

"As you and I have discussed, however, I can not defend the Director's handling of the conclusion of the investigation of Secretary Clinton's emails, and I do not understand his refusal to accept the almost universal judgment that he was mistaken".

Trump's young presidency has been battered by allegations - under investigation both by Congress and the FBI - that Russian Federation interfered to sway the 2016 election in his favour, in possible collusion with Trump's campaign team.

If Rosenstein recuses himself, Brand, a Trump appointee, would become the top Justice official overseeing Mueller's work.

The official said the President does believe he's under investigation for obstruction as he indicated himself on Twitter.
