Cosby accuser to resume testimony in sex assault trial

Bill Cosby arrives for his sexual assault trial at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown Pennsylvania

On Tuesday, the second day of Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial, Andrea Constand gave her first public testimony on allegations that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in 2004.

She also admitted that she returned to Cosby's Elkins Park home, which is just outside Philadelphia, after the alleged assault had taken place, even bringing him a gift of bath salts. "In my head, I was trying to get my hands to move and my legs to move, and those messages were frozen".

On the alleged assault: "I wanted him to stop".

Agrusa noted that Constand and Cosby exchanged numerous gifts, and that the comedian gave her cashmere sweaters, perfume and a $225 hair dryer. "They're your friends; they'll take the edge off".

When cross-examined, Mason said that Constand said she had not been alone with Cosby before this night nor did she have much contact with him after, which Cosby's team disputed.

Phone records showed Constand called Cosby 53 times between January 20, 2004, days after the incident, and March 31, 2004, when she left Temple University, including twice on Valentine's Day. Constand, whose testimony marked the first time she had spoken publicly about the incident, claimed she tried to stop Cosby from violating her body, but she found herself incapacitated, reports Deadline.com. Constand claims that Cosby became her mentor and invited her into his home on multiple occasions.

While Constand had originally come forward in 2005 about the 2004 meeting at Cosby's Pennsylvania home, the Montgomery County district attorney did not seek charges, reportedly due to lack of evidence. But prosecutors opened their case on Monday by calling another woman to the stand, Kelly Johnson, to show that the TV star made a habit of knocking women out with pills and then molesting them. After the meal, Constand was called back to Cosby's room, where they lay side-by-side on his bed for approximately 10 minutes, legs touching, according to testimony. She claimed she was then jolted awake and felt Cosby's hand groping her breast under her shirt, then groping her genitals.

Cosby's attorney questioned her motives and said she had given conflicting statements to authorities, including describing the incident as having occurred after a Chinese dinner with him. I felt really humiliated. "He said put them down".

"I began to slur my words and I told Mr. Cosby that I had trouble seeing him and I was seeing two of him", she testified of the effects of the pills Cosby told her were supplements.

Cosby maintains only that he gave Constand the antihistamine Benadryl to relieve stress, insists their sexual relations were consensual and accuses her of lying.

The sexual assault trial of Bill Cosby is underway, and his accuser will return to the witness stand today to continue cross examination from the entertainer's lawyers.

"I felt that if I had gone to police, Mr. Cosby would retaliate and try to hurt me, that he would try to hurt me and my family in some way", Constand said.

The AP does not typically identify people who say they are sexual assault victims unless they grant permission, which Constand and Johnson have done.
