Bill Cosby criminal case: 'Mistrial' declared

The Pennsylvanian judge then declared a mistrial.

McMonagle said he respected Cosby's efforts to keep his family out of the courtroom spotlight.

Since Bill Cosby is legally blind, McMonagle stated that the trial itself was extremely taxing on his health, and is anxious that it could be possible that his client may not survive another trial.

Cosby himself didn't comment, remaining stoic as the judge declared a mistrial, but his spokesman Andrew Wyatt declared the star's "power is back".

Judge Steven O'Neill refused, saying there's no precedent to halt the jury's work. The jury deliberated for more than 52 hours over six days. Comedian Aparna Nancherla, who frequently posts social commentary, tweeted, "Ask women again why they don't report their rapes".

Mr Cosby, 79, was tried for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004.

He was eventually charged in December 2015, just days before the statute of limitations was set to expire.

The lack of a verdict left some of those other women, who have attended the trial, a bit dejected, but they and women's right lawyer Gloria Allred pledged to continue to seek justice.

McMonagle, in his closing argument, pointed out that Constand telephoned Cosby dozens of times after the alleged assault. "Round 2 may be just around the corner and this time justice may prevail". "It's too early to celebrate, Cosby".

It was the only criminal case to arise from allegations from more than 60 women that cast Cosby as a serial predator who gave drugs to women before violating them.

The jury appeared unable to agree on which version of the night in question to believe: Constand's or Cosby's. Reluctantly, she said, she took the pills because she trusted him as a friend and mentor, but soon, she felt whoozy and had blurry vision.

Cosby chose not to testify at the trial. "I am a truth-teller". "I wanted it to stop".

"She's a very spiritual woman, she believes things happen for a goal, and I think the objective is.it should encourage other women to come forward and have their day in court", said her lawyer, Dolores Troiani.

Cosby is legally blind and uses a cane. Instead, Cosby emerged from the courthouse with his publicity team, which read a statement from his wife that accused the judge likely to retry him of arrogance and collusion with prosecutors.

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission.

O'Neill asked each juror if the impasse was impossible to resolve.

Yesterday, they came back and told the judge they were hopelessly deadlocked. "Everyone is assuming one way or another", said O'Neill.

The trial drew intense media attention, with more than 100 credentials issued for print, online, television and radio reporters.

Cosby's wife, Camille Cosby, slammed prosecutors for bringing the case to court.

But Steele said it was no accident that some of Constand's memories were faulty.

Finally, Steele said, "We hope that moving forward in this case sends a strong message that victims of these types of crimes can come forward and can be heard on what has happened to them".

Steele said it was important to resolve the case. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
