Aitor Karanka: Alvaro Morata will be spectacular at Manchester United

United boss Jose Mourinho has put Morata at the top of his wanted list as he looks to draft in a new striker, and is reported to have already failed with one bid in the region of £54million.

Real Madrid were rocked by widespread claims in the media on Friday that Ronaldo wants to leave the Spanish capital in the summer.

Chelsea are growing in confidence that they can hijack Manchester United's deal for Alvaro Morata and believe manager Antonio Conte holds the key. The player was earlier linked to a host of clubs but it is Manchester United who are now in the lead for the Spaniard.

Conte was the man to bring Morata to Juventus before he left for the Italy job in 2014.

Morata scored 19 goals in 43 appearances for Real Madrid last season, but found his number of starts limited under Zinedine Zidane.

That has contributed to United's delay in concluding a deal for Morata, with Ronaldo's bombshell forcing them to re-think their summer plans.

There have been rumours of Morata being on the brink of moving to Manchester United in the recent days. The Blues, too, will be in need of a striker, especially after the latest bout between Diego Costa and the club.

He is the real deal, and there is still much more to come.

Morata has global teammates at both the clubs and he will have a tough job in choosing a team between the two.

And according to the Mirror, Morata is seen as an ideal replacement.

In an interview with The Guardian in April, he said: 'Various Premier League coaches called to tell me to play for them.
