Warriors set to make their claim as NBA's best ever

Kevin Durant tears out Cavaliers' hearts with key three-pointer as Warriors take 3-0 lead in NBA Finals

The feeling that Durant's arrival in Golden State would turn the Warriors into a super team has been spot on. The Cavaliers took their biggest lead of the series (seven) off 16 third-quarter points from Irving. And it didn't matter.

LeBron James says he doesn't have any problem with Golden State building a super team.

Kevin Durant released his deep shot, the one he always makes in his dreams.

Throughout the second half Wednesday night, Cleveland had hope. Love scored 27 points in Game 2 as Irving had more shot attempts than points. LeBron was incredible once again.

Despite huge performances from LeBron James (39 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists) and Kyrie Irving (38 points), the Cavs were downed at Quicken Loans Arena.

The Warriors had swept their first three series and were 48 minutes away from a party they've been planning for a year.

Also Thursday the Warriors historic playoff run was front and center for the Cavs. That ball movement has resulted in 94 assists for Golden State through the first three games compared to 59 assists for Cleveland.

The Warriors closed out the game on an 11-0 run.

The Warriors had trailed the defending champions for much of the second half, but used a late surge to secure a 15th-straight win, the longest post-season streak for any team in the four American major professional sports (National Football League, National Hockey League and Major League Baseball are the other three). The two minutes and 23 seconds in which he sat?

In any event, the Cavs are still breathing and it's now the Warriors who may be feeling the pressure.

"We had some really good looks". But against the Warriors, it has had to exert every bit of energy just to give itself a chance. "The crowd was giving them a lot of energy and those guys came out with a lot of force".

"It's probably the most firepower I've played [against] in my career", LeBron said. "I thought Klay's defense on Kyrie was fantastic", Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. The Warriors are the only team in the National Basketball Association that plays small ball better than the Celtics, and it would give them less of a strategic advantage against Boston.

Himself a former part of a super squad with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, James now faces a tough task against the new Warriors dynamic duo of MVPs in Durant and Curry. It was Durant - who is on his way to his first championship and the prohibitive favorite to win the Finals MVP - with 31 points and the deciding shot in the fourth.

"You can tell, he knows this is his moment", said Golden State coach Steve Kerr. "I think it was [that] we played a desperate team on their home floor, a great team, with great players, and they came out and handed it to us. He senses this is his time, his moment, his team". They can complete the first undefeated postseason on Friday.

That remained a possibility the entire game Wednesday night - until the closing minutes, when the Warriors ripped the Cavaliers hearts out. Golden State's past failures made this victory even more rewarding. "That was my very next call", Green said. It would take an even more unlikely comeback for the Cavaliers to prevent the Warriors from winning the 2017 NBA Finals and Durant might take less than the max in the offseason to keep the core together.

"All I was looking at was the bottom of the net", said Durant who is playing his first season with Golden State.

Although Curry was eager to "take care of business", he still understands 16 wins and the title are most important.

"The bigger thing is that we got two stops after I made that shot", Durant said. "Anything can happen. So I don't want to relax or feel like it's over, it's not".
