Trump tweets again, in defense of his tweeting

Last month, President Donald Trump and his administration were out praising Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

The FBI will not release memos written by former director James Comey on his interactions with President Trump because they're part of a "pending or prospective law enforcement proceeding". "Witch Hunt", the President wrote in his tweet.

Trump later said in interviews he had planned to fire Comey anyway, and in an NBC interview said he had the Russian Federation investigation in mind when he made a decision to dismiss the FBI director.

Some of his ire is aimed at Rosenstein and investigative special counsel Robert Mueller, both of whom the president believes are biased against him, associates say.

'Americans should be be skeptical about anonymous allegations, ' Rosenstein continued. A source on Trump's legal team claimed the president was referring to a Washington Post story "from the other night" rather than confirming he is being investigated.

Trump's young presidency has been battered by allegations-under investigation both by Congress and the FBI-that Russian Federation interfered to sway the 2016 election in his favor, in possible collusion with Trump's campaign team. Rosenstein, who would be responsible for actually dismissing Mueller, told U.S. lawmakers he would fire him only with good cause.

The order by the general counsel for the transition team casts a wide net on documents that could shed light on ties between Trump's presidential campaign and representatives of Russia's government.

SUSAN COLLINS: If President Trump ordered you to fire the special counsel, what would you do?

The Justice Department on Friday said any such of consideration of recusal was premature. An aide on Thursday said Pence had hired Richard Cullen who litigated the 1980s Iran-Contra scandal, the Watergate affair and the 2000 vote recount in Florida.

Trump was reportedly sore at Sessions for recusing himself and setting this whole chain of events in motion.

ABC said Rosenstein told Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand she would have authority over the probe if he were to step aside. President Donald Trump's closest allies are attacking the integrity of those involved in the wideni. However, the Justice Department spokesman Ian Prior said Friday Rosenstein sees no reason at this point to recuse himself, however, adding, "As the deputy attorney general has said numerous times, if there comes a point when he needs to recuse, he will".

From 2011 until her confirmation, she was a lawyer for the US Chamber of Commerce business lobbying group's legal arm, which played a major role in marshaling legal opposition to environmental and labor regulations championed by Democratic former President Barack Obama.

The Russia investigation has already put the Justice Department in an unusual position.

Rosenstein, 52, has said little publicly, but a cryptic statement he released late Thursday captured some of the strain and frustration he is probably feeling about the numerous unauthorised leaks about the Russian Federation investigation that have angered the president, according to several of his colleagues and friends.

And if Rosenstein and Brand were both out of the picture, responsibility for the investigation would fall to Dana Boente, the acting head of the department's national security division and the current U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
