Afghan soldier wounds 7 US soldiers in insider attack

That attack came just days after three US soldiers were killed and another wounded during a joint US-Afghan military operation in the same region.

The US has confirmed that several American service members have been injured in Afghanistan.

Abdul Qahar Araam, spokesman for the 209 Army corps, said soldiers returned fired killing the attacker.

An Afghan commando shot dead three USA soldiers last Saturday in eastern Nangarhar province. The convoy returned fire in self-defense, and there were no U.S. casualties, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation said in a statement. Initial reports indicated that the U.S. soldiers were killed but Resolute Support confirmed there were no USA or North Atlantic Treaty Organisation casualties. The Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack, which unfolded on June 10 in eastern Afghanistan.

So far this year, six USA service members have been killed in combat in Afghanistan, all in Nangarhar in the eastern part of the country, according to statistics compiled by the website

If confirmed, the insider attack would be the second in a week in Afghanistan.

The attack comes exactly one week after three US soldiers were killed and a fourth wounded in Peka Valley, Nangarhar province, in eastern Afghanistan in an insider attack.

More information will be provided as it becomes available, they said.

Addressing to the House and Senate lawmakers, Mattis said by mid-July will be providing a comprehensive strategy for the country.

The injured personals have been evacuated for medical treatment.
