Anger over the Grenfell Tower disaster has spilled onto the streets, with protesters demanding justice for the victims and voicing their frustration over the handling of the crisis.
Kensington and Chelsea Town Hall became another flashpoint on Friday with protesters storming the building, accusing authorities of ignoring them and of forcing low-income families to live in sub-standard housing.
The Guardian newspaper reported that when the building was renovated in 2016, a cheaper form of aluminum composite cladding was used that did not contain fire-resistant material.
The blaze, which began in the early hours of June 14, claimed at least 30 lives, with dozens more reportedly still unaccounted for.
"My hope would be that we don't see anything like that in this province", he said. "This should not be happening in the United Kingdom, this should never happen".
Police were forced to intervene and hold back the crowd as May left the premises.
Dozens of police officers held back booing crowds and broke up scuffles as her auto drove off from a local church, where she had met survivors, residents and volunteers and promised new funds for those affected.
In an interview with the BBC late yesterday, May insisted she was "deeply affected" by the "horrifying" stories of survivors, and repeated that she was determined to help.
"Something awful has happened", she answered.
"This is an absolutely bad fire that took place". People have lost their lives and others have lost everything, all their possessions, their home and everything.
"[This aims] to give the victims the immediate support they need to care for themselves and for loved ones", Ms May said.
Another demonstration took place outside May's Downing Street office, while later in the evening, hundreds of mourners gathered near the tower for a candlelight vigil.
Many wept as they joined in with renditions of Bob Marley's Three Little Birds and Amazing Grace during a short service which ended with a two-minute silence.
"I do believe the number will increase", police commander Stuart Cundy told reporters in front of the charred building. "It's because that tower was such an eyesore for these people in very expensive houses just opposite", she said.
Jeremy Corbyn has written to Mrs May calling for the terms of reference to be wide enough to allow "all the relevant facts" to emerge and "all necessary lessons are learned".
The government has ordered inspections of similar buildings, and May said it was doing "everything in our power" to ensure people living in an estimated 4,000 other tower blocks across Britain were safe.
May has announced a judge-led inquiry into what happened, and yesterday promised £5 million (RM27.4 million) for emergency supplies, food and clothing.
"Unfortunately, when there is any catastrophic loss like that, it is also used as a learning experience, and there are going to be changes to the way we administer our duties", Mr. Farrell said, adding that any changes will be gradual and dependent on what British investigators determine to be the cause and aggregating factors of the fatal fire.
